I know… I know… Everyone loves free stuff.  But come on, effective business cards are not cards you get for free with someone else’s advertising on them.  What do you think that looks like to a potential client?

You: Hey Mark I really liked talking with you about widgets today.  Here is my card with a couple of ways you can get in touch with me again.

Me: Great!  (looks at card and turns it over, confused look crosses face).  Uh just how long have you been in the widget business?

You: Over two years now.  Why do you ask?

Me: Well if you’ve been in business that long, have you actually made any sales?

You: Oh yes!  I have dozens of clients.

Me: Oh, so why do you have to advertise someone else’s business on your card?

Right!
